At Wave Concepts, we believe that using real scientific terminology is more useful and provides both the technical and non-technical visitor the most accurate information. For this reason, we will not try to label our techniques and processes with flowery terms or come up with nifty names for something that most RF Engineers already know. If you do not understand a term, process, or technique, or simply wish to know more about a topic, feel free to contact us and ask a question. We will be more than happy to talk with you.

interference analysis

In the new age of digital communications and with the advent of 3G technologies on the horizon, it has become increasingly more important to have very good and very accurate interference calculations. Athena starts with the most accurate prediction available and utilizes tried and true statistical interference techniques which calculate the following:

1. For a single sector, the joint probability that both the C/No threshold and the C/I threshold will not be exceeded by that sector in the presence of N-1 interferors at each point being considered. For CDMA technologies, all signals are treated as noise and the definition then becomes the probability that each sector being considered does not exceed the C/No threshold (minus the processing gain) in the presence of N noise equivalent interferors.

2. For analysis on all sites at once, mutual interference is the joint probability that ANY sector will not exceed the C/No and C/I thresholds at the point being considered in the presence of N interferors. Similarly, for CDMA technologies, since all interference is treated as noise, the definition becomes the probability that ANY sector does not exceed the C/No threshold (minus the processing gain) in the presence of N interferors.

Remember, though, that an interference calculation and everything which comes out of it (C/I, Ec/Io, C/N+I) are only valid if your initial prediction is accurate.  This is why we only use the best model available.
